[fusion_text]CEE doctoral student Gang Seob Jung, Min Jeong Kang MEng ’16, research scientist Zhao Qin and McAfee Professor of Engineering and Department Head Markus Buehler have designed a sponge-like material that is both strong and lightweight, with the ability to be 10 times stronger than steel. The findings, published in Science Advances, show that the geometric configuration of the graphene material is critical to the material being lightweight and strong, and offers a new way to scale up the remarkable properties of the 2D atomically-thin material to the macroscale.
